I attempted suicide last night…and i didnt die…..why not?

Question:

last night at 1 am i overdoes on 2 prescription drugs. i had 20 pills of tylenol 3 (with codeine) in which each contained 30 mg of codeine and 300 mg of tylenol. however, i filtered the pills in cold water so i could separate the tylenol from it and all i had left was 600 mg of codeine. i took all of that in at once then i took about 500 mg of seroquel as well. i got REALLLY dizzy and numb. i tried to stand but i just kept falling over. my mouth was really dry and i could feel my heart beating extremely fast, however i still felt very calm and relaxed. after wards, i got really sleep so i went to sleep. i woke up 5 hours later and threw up the slept for about another 6 hours. i feel fine now, except just still a bit sleepy. what i want to know is why i didn’t die and can something still happen to me maybe a few days from now? if so, what and when? what are the chances some tylenol DID get to my liver? should i go to the hospital? could i still get liver failure even though i filtered most of the tylenol out? what are the symptoms and when will they start to show? how long until “its too late”? here are the symptoms ive had since overdosing. – threw up 5 hours after overdosing -nauseous -extremely tired/sleepy – dry mouth -dry skin – just as of an hour ago, SLIGHTLY yellowing eyes.

  • you should definetly go to the er…od from tylenol can occur around 48 hrs later….its a slow.. go to the er and get help physically and mentally

  • yes you can suffer from tylenol od up to 3 or 4 weeks from now. You sound like you must be very depressed to be attempting suicide. Do you know you could put your energy to a more positive approach than this? I think if I were you I would see a medical doctor about the tylenol od right away. good luck.

  • i have thought about overdose as a way out too… i have a lot of anti anxiety tabs… i have lots of seroquel tabs too.. and lexapro, valium, xanax, zoloft, avanza etc… how do people know what is sufficient?

  • You should definitely go to the hospital…But I wouldn’t return to regular activities until you are diagnosed and medicated for your mental distress. Go to see a psychologist/therapist/psychiatrist…whâ?¦ just talk about it and get some help…If you have some issues that serious, (especially if it just comes and goes enough for you to flirt with the idea and do the damage) your going to damage the likelihood of your body making it to old age with out crippling consequences. I hope that this doesn’t sound to “mommish” for you to take seriously… Best of luck with everything, and just remember…the things that your going through thousands of people before have already endeavored. Things get hard, go to the people that will support you. And remember, there are always good times to reflect on…the smell of fresh cut grass, a cup of coffee and a sunrise in the morning, the leaves turning in the fall…these are some of my small moments that make me smile. Not to mention the smile on my beautiful daughters face when she sees me come home from work. What is it that makes the world beautiful to you? Let it fuel you to be better than who you were yesterday. The master if what someone told you you would never be. Rise up against the thoughts and negativity. Love yourself and help others through what you’ve experienced…it will make you feel worlds better to see that the pain of your past could help someone to overcome the same pot holes.   • People have different tolerance to drugs, everyone is different. But why would you attempt suicide. I’m depressed and made some past regrets and diagnosed with agoraphobia, which is like a prison to me. But there is always something that keeps me strong through all this. IF you made a past regret, move in into the future and think outside the box and think positive. there are programs that can get you help if you’re a low income and without insurance. I can make payments later on. But good luck with your problem, I know you can be strong enough I have faith.

    heres is some history on me: ive been seeing a clinical psyc for around 4 months and been on lexapro for around 3 weeks i’m 19 i’ve had previous suicide attempts (before the medication) alot of people have said that SSRI’s can cause increased suicidal ideation among teenagers…how long is this supposed to last? i’m not sure if it’s a direct result of taking the medication but deep inside i just feel like ending my life, i havent tried anything since i started on medication but i have this strong ideation to kill myself. deep down i still don’t feel like i have a purpose on this earth atm what are ur experiences with SSRI and suicidal thoughts?

  • I have been on them before, however they tend to stop working after about 2 years. I never had increased suicidal thoughts until they quit working. If you are having suicidal thoughts, it doesn’t matter if its the medication or not. The bottom line is you need to contact your doctor ASAP and let him/her know. The medication may not be working, or it may be increasing those feelings, however it doesn’t matter. Please get help ASAP! You can receive the help you need and they can switch medications if that is a problem. I urge you to not wait, get help now!

  • I started SSRIs when I was 18 and they didn’t make me any more suicidal than I already was. They didn’t help at all, either, but that’s because my body reacts badly to all SSRIs. Everyone’s body chemistry is different, so just because a side effect is common doesn’t mean it’s inevitable.

  • I found when I started my antidepressants the first 3-4 months were very flat.. like ther wasn’t any emotion at all. The worst part is when you go off the meds, then things go crazy you get overly emotional and your thoughts get dark. I think it also depends on gender though too because women also have to deal with their monthly cycles. the best thing I found was to keep a diary or journal or even a blog and then you can track what happened on the days when things were bad, and also include if you took your meds and make a note anytime you change meds or dosages just to be sure. Then you can usually catch yourself before things get really bad. and its also really important to be honest with yourself I had to try 2 different types of meds and 4 different dosages before I found on that worked for me. And exercise really helps a lot, just getting out and doings things, maybe get a pet if you can having something or someone that depends on you helps a lot because you feel needed. just remember to talk to people because most people who have jumped off the brooklyn bridge the few that survived the fall said that the moment they let go they realized they could fix their problems however usually at this point its too late to go back. life may be a b***h but at least its your b***h.

  • I used to very depressed to the extent that I thought about suicide/death constantly. One thing that I can attribute to getting better is having regular sessions of psychotherapy. If you feel very strongly about committing suicide talk to someone immediately, preferably a psychologist who can help you.

  • a police station in ireland is called a garda station. in the directories i found a number for one in dublin 018437202 but you will need a code to ring from america. i suggest you try to ring them and get someone to investigate this. hope everything works out.

  • if u think hes serious, u need to call the local police station to where he lives and they can go to his address and check up on him.

  • 99 percent of the time, the people who say they are gonna commit suicide are the ones who never do. Being as far away as you can, I cannot see much you can do. If you know his full name you can try to do a search online for a suicide in his area and see if it did happen, or just wait and see if he comes back on line. Given the date of the email, he has already either done it or just hasnt and chickened out (sorry but the truth can hurt). At this point there is very little you can do except move on with your life and be there for him as a friend if/when he comes back online.

    Ok, so my fiance and I are in this debate whether or not a life insurance company would pay if the person commits suicide. I recently read a story about a woman who killed herself because her house was being foreclosed and she left a note next to herself telling her husband he can now use the money from her life insurance to pay the bills. Now, I know you shouldn’t believe everything you watch on T.V. but I watched a CSI show once with a similar situation and the life insurance company wouldn’t pay out because the woman killed herself. So…my fiance says this family will get the money and I wonder if they really will. So what is your opinion? Will the family get the isurance money or not?

  • Every insurance policy I have ever seen or investigated has a stipulation that it does not pay for pre-meditated suicide. If the death is ruled as an accidental overdose, then it would pay. If a suicide is revealed by the investigating officers, the insurance will not pay. Hope this helps!

  • I sat in a real case with a situation like this. Mom and dad both had separate policies on themselves and had the kids in the will. It was a murder suicide case though. The kids were only to get the money from the moms policy since suicide was not covered and dad killed himself. In this case the wife was killed by the husband who in turn killed himself so only her policy was legal for paying out.

  • I know a lady in a similar situation. She has four kids, and recently (I think this was about a month and a half ago) her husband shot himself over their house being foreclosed. She DID NOT receive any money for his life insurance. They got kicked out of their house within 30 days and now they are living in a hotel. I think the husband should have looked into it a little more closely, than being so selfish and leaving his family of 5 with absolutely nothing.

    ive calmed down now. but i have depression, anxiety, and anorexia. and now gastroenteritis. except i havent been allowed to take my depression pills (4 of them) because of the severe nausea and vomitting. today i finally snapped. and tried to kill myself. i started with cutting. tried to get to the vein in my wrist. then tried to over dose on effexor, cymbalta, anything i could get my hands on. my parents stopped me but wouldnt take me seriously. they laughed, took my phone, and wont let me talk to my boyfriend. im calling my psychiatrist tomorrow. im scared theyre gonna send me to a mental hospital or something. any idea of what theyll do?

  • Don’t be scared of the psych ward. They evaluate you, counsel you, make sure you get better. You may be medicated to get rid of the gastroenteritis (MAY be? You probably will) and you might have to be tube fed depending on the degree of anorexia. They’ll probably focus on the eating disorder, which can actually cause depression and anxiety. If you still aren’t better after that, you will get pills. Again.

    Now ive been looking at new info for the supposed Kurt Cobain “suicide” and all i want to know is was the bullet angled up as it penetrated his skull, or straight? Was he really sitting up, as he pulled the trigger? And one final question, if this is really a “suicide” how was he able to pick up a shot gun, after taking 3 times the lethal dose, along with the drug Valium, and not being lapsed into a coma? Oh and one more, and I’m done for now, Why in the hell in the police report was it listed that he did initially have gun shot residue on his hands, but is listed TWO YEARS LATER that he DIDN’T? I’ve got evidence, if y’all want to see. but i need someone to shed some light on this. Please help!!!!!!!!!! Mind boggling, isn’t it?

Can you manage to drive a car properly, highly intoxicated, let alone high on morphine around the streets of New York without ever hitting the gutter or other cars?.
